You are eligible for a $50 rebate if you decide to retire a refrigerator that is 10 years and older. We also provide pick-up from your home and drop-off of the refrigerator for recycling at the landfill at no extra cost.
Refrigerators must be older than 10 years and in working condition to qualify for the retirement rebate. Compact refrigerators less than 220 litres or 7.75 cubic fee are not eligible for the rebate. The rebate is available to households in all Yukon communities.
If you are replacing your old refrigerator, consider purchasing an ENERGY STAR refrigerator and qualifying for a $100 appliance rebate.
Appliances manufactured in the last 20 years tend to use less electricity due to technology and manufacturing improvements. The greatest energy savings result from retiring old, secondary refrigerators. Replacing old primary refrigerators with new ENERGY STAR refrigerators results in moderate energy savings.
